Now more than ever, we need that warm glow of Christmas Spirit. Town light displays are part of what makes a community feel that sense of ‘solidarity’.
Hayle’s annual Christmas lights were all set for a grand ‘switch on’ event on Friday 26th November with a festival of light lantern parade along King George’s Walk, Carols sung by Bodriggy Academy and music provided by Heyl Town Band.
Unfortunately, storm Arwen decided to make her appearance that very same night! As the weather forecast had predicted strong winds and driving rain, with heavy hearts the Christmas lights organisers decided it was safer to postpone the event to Friday December 3rd.
Unfortunately, with the weather in Cornwall being so changeable, the decision had to be made to postpone the event once again as we experienced heavy rain for most of the day.
The lights were switched on as scheduled on November 26th but sadly without any of the celebrations to accompany them. The team of volunteers who coordinate the lights in the town worked tirelessly to ensure that despite the challenges of the weather, the lights were up and ready to be switched on at 4.30pm. There have been even more lights added around the town this year with the intention to create an even larger display in the coming years. With new lights came the need for new scaffolding to be put in place to hold the displays, and that’s where Corinthian were only too happy to step in and offer their assistance. Some of our scaffold crew worked with the Hayle Christmas Lights committee to concrete in some new posts along Penpol Terrace by the world famous Philps pasty shop. We were only too pleased to help and appreciate the organisers kind gesture of putting up a plaque to acknowledge our small contribution.
Many local businesses and individuals help to support the Hayle Christmas Lights in various ways, and one of the things that is vital to the survival and growth of this festive light display is donations. The small group of volunteers who run the Christmas lights are passionate about keeping the town’s light display so anyone interested in helping them keep this lovely tradition alive, please consider making a donation, however small, to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/haylechristmaslights2021?utm_term=MPepy4Mqk&fbclid=IwAR08qqk1rYl8LMHbSJCl-mseQFYKcHcnj0hl4VEL6wCH65hzgqwo2-5vHiA
